Hyperbole (pronounced: hi-per-bol-ee) is found in many non-fiction and media texts. It is a form of persuasive language that we all use every day. We use hyperbole when we exaggerate for effect, for example, ' If I've told you once, I've told you a thousand times...!'

In non-fiction texts intended to persuade, hyperbole is often combined with emotive language to deepen the emotional response, for example: ' Can you imagine living out of doors in the freezing cold with no food and no cash. Hell can't be much worse for these poor folks.'
